New Project in Progress

I had a wild hair this evening and picked up a couple of skeins of Red Heart Super Saver acrylic yarn (worsted weight) in the Ocean colorway (lavender, pale green, pale blue). I had seen this interesting pair of lavender Fan Edged Armwarmers at Dragonfaeriee Crochets! Blog (http://dragonfaeriee.blogspot.com/2009/02/fan-edged-armwarmers.html) and thought I might like to try crocheting a pair since my arms often get so cold in the classroom. I figured if I really didn't like them when I got them finished, I would not have put out much money ($2.00/skein at Wal-Mart).

Well, the first one is finished except for the seaming and the second one is half-way completed. Hopefully, I'll get it finished tomorrow morning and I can do the seams in a decent manner. (I hate doing seams or joining!)

The West Side Chain Gang (CGOA Guild) meeting on Sunday was great even though it took me an hour's worth of driving in the rain to get there! I overshot the coffee house by several miles and had to retrace my steps, making me a little more than 30 minutes late. No worries! The three ladies who were there were very friendly and encouraging about all aspects of crocheting – including the making of garments (which I have never managed to accomplish). I did find a easy sweater pattern online that I think I'm going to try this week. More about that after I finish the armwarmers.

Another doily in the works

I'm back into thread work again. I started the Excellence doily from the March 1989 (#8) issue of Decorative Crochet. Using a size 6/1.80mm steel hook by Boye USA and #10 white cotton thread, I was able to complete Rows 1-6 on fairly quickly on 8 Mar 2009. Looking good! Since then, I've accomplished precious little (Rows 7 and 8) because my final graduate class (the capstone!) has started and it's all about that big project that's due in 5 weeks. Fortunately, I'm not teaching this next week due to Spring Break so I should have more time to spend crocheting, taking pictures and posting to my blog. (We can always hope!)

I'm looking forward to attending a new crochet group associated with the CGOA tomorrow. We'll be meeting once a month on the third Sunday. For more information on our new group see: http://westsidecrochet.blogspot.com/. It should be a lot of fun.
